Now it is the turn of the trees in my local woodland such as lime, beech and common oak to turn soft yellow, gold and copper.

Their leaves are falling thick and fast, carrying with them unwanted toxins and excess ballast so that the trees can draw on their core strength of trunk and branch to withstand the harsh winds and cold of winter.

The leaf colour is so thick on the ground that it invites us to crunch and swish through it with delight, so why not get out there before this joyful moment of the year has passed.
